Just a 1 hour drive from Paris, the region has a cool and continental climate, creating the perfect growing conditions for quality sparkling wine production. The many sub-appellations include Vallée de la Marne, Montagne de Reims, Côtes des Blancs, Côtes de Sézanne and the Côtes de Bar, all based on calcareous soils but varying in micro climate, so that every terroir has a unique story to tell.

Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier dominate plantings, although there are seven permitted varieties in the region which all offer something different to a blend. Non-Vintage styles are typically produced from the three classic grapes and make up the majority of the region’s production. Chardonnay brings freshness and citrus aromas, Pinot Noir contributes red fruit and structure, and Pinot Meunier offers aromatics and weight. Wines made from 100% Chardonnay, known as Blanc de Blancs, can be fresh and linear when young, developing nutty and toasty flavours over time, whilst Blanc de Noirs styles are only made from the black Champagne grapes, and tend to be fuller in style with red fruit aromas and earthy notes. Vintage Champagnes are only made in the very best years, and are concentrated, elegant, cellar-worthy wines.

Nestled down a traditional street close to Reims, in the historic Champagne region, you’ll find Champagne Jean Boucton.What quickly becomes clear when you hear about Jean Boucton is it is all about family. The champagnes are born out of close ties within the same family of long-established producers. Based in the same village, each family member runs their own property and vineyards and while every property has its own range of champagnes, they have pulled together to create a new high-end range of vintage and cuvée champagnes independent of those.Also, champagne Jean Boucton is a one of a kind family arrangement. It’s a novel idea which manages to harness the best that each family member and property has to offer into a single signature style.The family is united in a vision, using their expertise to create a unique range of cuvees, driven by passion, dedication and the desire to keep the traditions that have been passed down through the generations very much alive and present in the wines.

Jean Boucton champagnes are produced out of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier grew primarily in three villages: Berru, Montbre and Avenay Val d’Or.Berru is located in the extension of the Montagne de Reims 7 km from the Cathedral where the French Kings were crowned.
The village lies in the area called “Montagne et Val de Reims”.The soil there, typical for Champagne is composed of chalk and limestone that naturally absorbs and restores heat and humidity and produce elegant mineral Champagnes.
This geological feature, combined with the exposure of the vineyards, provides optimal conditions for the maturation of the grapes used in the development of our Cuvées.

This Vintage Cuvée is blended with a majority of Chardonnay (60%) bringing its minerality and freshness and also benefits from the structure and fruit of the Pinot Noir (20%) and Meunier (20%).
Grapes are harvested on plots of land selected for the age of their vines and the quality of their soil. No pesticides or herbicides are used, it is just organic fertilisation.
It is fermented 9 months in 350 litre oak barrels and matured ‘sur lie’ until it reaches its peak and can fully express its terroir.
There is no malolactique fermentation and the natural acidity and citrus notes of the Chardonnay are gently balanced with discreet vanilla and creamy notes exacerbated by the barrels.
